Whitekirk's Cinematic Guitars Come To Soundbox

The Church. The Guitars. The Feeling.

When we released Panorama Whitekirk for Kontakt, the requests for a Soundbox version came thick and fast. So here it is: Post-Rock Guitars 3: Whitekirk, the next chapter in our Post-Rock Guitars series, recorded in one of the most remarkable spaces we’ve ever worked in.

The Setting

Nestled in the Scottish countryside village of Whitekirk stands the 900-year-old St Mary’s church, and inside it, a unique acoustic environment.

At one end, the striking curved wooden roof of the nave creates a warm, tight room sound. Walk down the centre into the oldest part of the church, with its centuries-old stone walls and ceiling, and the acoustics open out into something vast and completely organic.

The Instruments

We recorded two guitars for Whitekirk: an electric and a semi-hollow, captured in a stereo setup through two beautiful amps and a massive pedalboard loaded with effects.

We captured everything from pristine cleans that sound massive in the room to washed-out fuzz tones and granular textures drenched in reverb.

The result picks up where Post-Rock Guitars Vol 1 and Vol 2 left off, with a rich collection of shoegaze and cinematic guitar sounds ready to use in your music.

The Sounds

Like Panorama Whitekirk, Post-Rock Guitars 3 gives you the experience of walking through the church while you hear someone play guitar.

To make that possible, we placed a series of microphones along the central nave and created two stereo mixes from them. You can crossfade seamlessly between them using your mod wheel or, thanks to Soundbox’s extensive modulation possibilities, pretty much any other MIDI control or MPE gesture you like.

It’s an instrument made for dreamy, atmospheric guitar work in film, ambient and experimental productions.

Post-Rock Guitars Vol. 3: Whitekirk features the same material as its Kontakt counterpart, but with all the perks of Soundbox: iOS and Linux support (not just Windows and Mac), full MPE, and at a slightly lower price.

“I love how you can go from those expressive pads to a simple guitar sound, and a very clean one at that. If you want a bit more distance and get more of the sound of the church you can. The quality of this is exceptional."
